Established in 1947 by Jack Fox and Martin Locke, historic Leiper’s Fork grocery Fox & Locke (formerly known as Puckett’s Grocery of Leiper’s Fork) has been in operation for more than 75 years. It first opened across the street, then moved to its current location in 1955.

Once a bustling haven for gas, groceries, and gossip, Fox & Locke now serves up delicious Southern breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as some of the best live music you’ll hear anywhere. It’s not unusual for big country stars like Carrie Underwood to turn up here unexpectedly and belt out a few hits. Live shows are Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday, with a popular open mic event each Thursday. Tickets often sell out and can be purchased online in advance.

In 1947, members of two prominent families in the Leiper’s Fork area, Jack Fox and Martin Locke, opened Fox & Locke General Merchandise Store. They moved their successful store into a larger building across the street in 1955. The Puckett family bought this store in 1960, renaming it “Puckett’s” and continuing to serve Leiper’s Fork and the surrounding area for decades under various owners. From general store to music venue, one thing has remained true…this place is and always has been, an important part of this charming, historic community. In 2022, the heart of the country village returned to its roots with its original name, Fox & Locke.

Leiper’s Fork is the only historic district on The Natchez Trace Parkway and is a tourist destination. The community hosts events March through October that bring folks from near and far. Leiper’s Fork once hosted Willie Nelson for an outdoor show that drew 6,000 people!
