Where the Arts Live and History Waits to Be Restored

In the heart of downtown Pulaski, STAAR Theatre brings vibrant performing arts to life inside a historic building with an even bigger story to tell. A nonprofit dedicated to theatre, music, and arts education, STAAR (Southern Tennessee Area Arts Repertory) has been engaging the community through live performances, classes, and cultural events for over two decades.

STAAR Theatre produces a full calendar of live performances throughout the year, including musicals, comedies, dramas, concerts, and youth productions. With a mission to make the arts accessible and engaging for all ages, the theatre offers opportunities for local performers, volunteers, and students to shine on stage and behind the scenes. From family favorites to thought-provoking plays, STAAR Theatre continues to be a creative hub that entertains, educates, and inspires the region.

The theatre’s home is the Antoinette Hall building, one of Tennessee’s oldest surviving opera houses. Built in 1868, this once-grand upstairs venue hosted graduations, concerts, and theatrical events for over 50 years. Today, Antoinette Hall sits in a fragile state, closed to performances but not forgotten.

While STAAR Theatre operates in the renovated space downstairs, the original opera house above remains unrestored—a hauntingly beautiful reminder of Pulaski’s cultural past. Though the space is not open to the public on a regular basis, occasional tours and special events, including ghost-hunting, offer rare glimpses into this historic gem.

The goal is clear: to raise the funds needed to save and restore Antoinette Hall into a fully functioning venue once again. With enough support, the vision includes a 350-seat performance space complete with balcony, fly system, and modern amenities, preserving history while expanding STAAR’s ability to serve the region.

If you're passionate about history, preservation, or the performing arts, your donation can help ensure this one-of-a-kind opera house doesn't disappear forever. Every gift brings us one step closer to restoring a cultural landmark for generations to come.
